I am sure the three words “Happy New Year” were said far more carefully and with a fair amount of trepidation this year. As we move into another year of uncertainty, we need to hold on to the one thing that is so important to us at this stage - Family. We have learnt not to live such a fast-paced life and enjoy the comfort of home, from home cooking, playing games, and just enjoying the simple things of life again. [read more]

We have finally come to the end of the 2020 school year. We have faced many challenges together and have overcome them all with the hard work and determination from each and every role player.

The learners have worked hard, and they can be proud of their achievements, as they await their end of year results. We would like to thank all the teachers for the extra work and effort they put in this year to ensure that no learner missed out on this year’s work, whether it was in the classroom or at home.

We would like to thank the parents for supporting the teachers by ensuring that their children did all the work required of them during e-learning.

Finally, we would like to thank the learners for their dedication to their schoolwork and the perseverance that they have shown throughout the year. [read more]

Ignore the haters

A group of frogs were traveling through the forest when two of them fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that there was no hope left for them.

However, the two frogs ignored their comrades and proceeded to try to jump out of the pit. However, despite their efforts, the group of frogs at the top of the pit was still saying that they should just give up as they’d never make it out.

Eventually, one of the frogs took heed of what the others were saying, and he gave up, jumping even deeper to his death. The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the group of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and to just die. [read more]

Giving thanks can make you happier

The word gratitude is derived from the Latin word gratia, which means grace, graciousness, or gratefulness (depending on the context). In some ways, gratitude encompasses all of these meanings. Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what an individual receives, whether tangible or intangible.

In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships both personally and in the business world. Exams for the grade 7 to 11 cohort starts soon. I looked at what successful people do differently, and the list includes the following:

  1. Successful people know what their “why” is. They understand the reason for doing what they do. They have purpose. Your “why” gives you direction. Without it you will be like a ship not knowing where to sail to.
  2. Success does not come easy. It takes hard work, dedication, and sacrifice to achieve your goals. What you put in is what you get out.
  3. You need a roadmap to keep you on track. Have short term goals to help you achieve the long-term objective. Measure and keep track of your progress.
  4. There is a difference between being productive and being busy.
  5. They surround themselves with successful people because success breeds success.
  6. They keep things simple.
  7. Successful people have a balanced life. They work hard, but they make time for the people they love.
  8. They do not give up when things get tough. They get up and start again. Some of the best lessons in life comes after failure. [read more]
