Is it hard for you to get motivated to sit down and study?

Let’s face it…It is so much easier to watch just one more YouTube video, or to scroll through your social media feed just one last time, or to check your WhatsApp messages.  But the fact is that your exams are approaching at a phenomenal speed, and suddenly you have just days left to study and yesterday it was months. You have a rising sense of panic and dread, but you are paralyzed and don’t know where to begin. The more you panic, the harder it is to get to work. If you are feeling any of this or find yourself in this situation then you need to keep reading. [read more]

We are back for the fourth and final term. We hope that everyone had a well-rested break and that our learners are ready to take on the last bit of the school year.  It’s a short term filled with many events, so it’s going to be busy for all of us here at Riverside College. We also have exams and assessments at the end of the term, therefore we must make sure to maintain a good balance between work and play. Let’s motivate and encourage each other to be the best versions of ourselves. Have a great term! [read more]

Newsletter #31 – 19 September 2019 – Juniors

Heritage Day is around the corner which is the time of year we celebrate who we are and where we come from. An important part of the culture we grow up in are the morals and values we learn from our elders. Children cannot be expected to develop good morals and values without a solid foundation from home. Children learn by watching, not by listening. Showing your children how to be moral through your actions and not your words will teach them to be moral people for the rest of their lives.

NEWS FROM THE GRADE 5 CLASS

The Grade 5's have been hard at work last week with studying and tests. They have spent many long hours making sure that they achieve good results. During the test week, the Grade 5's have been working on a Natural Sciences and Technology practical - building their very own working car. Through the last few weeks of the term, wheels and axles were the topic of NST, and so the Grade 5's got to put their knowledge to the test. There were some very impressive designs and fun was had by all. [read more]

Newsletter #31 – 19 September 2019 – Seniors

As we get ready to enjoy a well-deserved break there are other families who will not see the light in their lives for some time to come. It is with great sadness that I share the news about 2 learners in our district that were shot and killed last night while in their home.

They were both just innocent little souls that got caught up in something they had no control over. Both these children were from the same family and school - Grade 1 and Grade 3. Our prayers are with that family and every other family that is grieving the loss of a child today.

In the same message a Principal narrowly missed flying bullets as he was unlocking the gate to the school premises this morning. These are the people who are responsible for keeping our children safe and creating an environment in which they can grow and develop, yet they are the targets of the senseless mayhem currently going on. We need to put a stop to this! [more]

Newsletter #29 – 06 September 2019 – Seniors

Our days are numbered. At this very moment, many thousands are born into the world, some destined to live only a few days or weeks, and then tragically succumb to illness or other misfortune.

Others are destined to push through to the century mark, perhaps even a bit beyond, and savour every taste life has to offer triumph, despair, joy, hatred, and love. We never know.

But whether we live a day or a century, a central question always remains: What is the purpose of our life? What makes our lives meaningful? [read more]
