2020 Was a very tough year for most of us.

Things did not go the way we wanted, planned, or dreamt it would be. We have so many excuses for why we cannot reach our full potential this year. If we do badly in the exams, fortunately we can blame it on 2020!

Everybody will understand.

Really? Do we have any valid excuse?

There was a lady, born on 27 June 1880 in Alabama, USA. At the age of 19 months she got terribly ill. The doctors called her illness “Congestion of the brain and stomach”. Today we know that she had meningitis, which can be fatal. After she recovered, her parents realised that she was blind and deaf. [read more]

The struggles of our lives:

Once upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was miserable and that she didn’t know how she was going to make it.

Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Once the three pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot and ground coffee beans in the third pot. He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his daughter. [read more]

The Importance of Honesty

There was a farmer who sold a pound of butter to a baker. One day the baker decided to weigh the butter to see if he was getting the right amount, which he wasn’t. Angry about this, he took the farmer to court.

The judge asked the farmer if he was using any measure to weight the butter. The farmer replied, “Your Honour, I am primitive. I don’t have a proper measure, but I do have a scale.”

The judge asked, “Then how do you weigh the butter?” [read more]

In assembly on Monday, I shared some knowledge about the RAS with the learners that I discovered many years ago.  The (RAS) Reticular Activating System is a network of neurons located in the brain stem that project anteriorly to the hypothalamus to mediate behavior, as well as both posteriorly to the thalamus.

The reticular activating system is the part of the brain that maintains the sleep/wake cycle. Any damage to this region can cause hypersomnolence and drowsiness.

It’s the part of the brain that accepts everything without question.  So, the last thing that you tell yourself or that your brain has just heard, it believes to be true.  If you tell yourself for example “I am always late”, guess what……. You will always be late!!!  Conversely, if you tell yourself “I am always early or on time, then you will be early or on time. [read more]

There was an old donkey. One day accidentally he fell into the farmer’s well. The farmer had evaluated the situation and thought to himself, that neither the well nor the old donkey was worth the effort to save them. He decided to haul dirt to bury the old donkey in the well.

So, the farmer called his neighbours and together they started to shovel dirt into the well.  The old donkey was terrified and hysterical in the beginning.  But soon one hopeful idea came to his mind – every time when a shovel of dirt landed on his back, he would shake it off and step up.  He repeated these words to himself again and again: Shake it off and step up[read more]
